fashion friday: must-have boots

Boots with heels. Leather boots. Boots with the furrrrrr. Whatever your fancy be, it is essential to have a pair a boots that speak volumes. There are so many options, but which is right for you and your wardrobe? And affordable for that matter?

Trending right now are ankle booties, boot wedges, and combat boots. I, personally, think everyone should have a pair of each kind. But, then again, I’m a shopaholic and will never have enough options. I decided to investigate to find my favorite of each trending type with a designer pair, as well as, an affordable pair. Let’s face it, not all of us can afford $10,000 Louboutins.

ANKLE BOOTIES

Perfect for that night on the town paired with a cute dress. I find these good for the lady who doesn’t like too high of a heal. Plus, I love the western flare!

fashion friday: CUT-OUTS!

Image

“Your clothes should be tight enough to show you’re a woman, but loose enough to show you’re a lady.” — Marilyn Monroe

Cut-outs are hitting the scene once again this Spring! They have been seen in designer’s lines, such as Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Gucci, & Alexander Wang.

TRENDING RIGHT NOW: oh, just CUT it OUT already! I’m sure that many of you are skeptical of this trend feeling that you might seem skanky or what not. But let me tell you, this trend dates all the way back to the great Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn was a big fan of the cut-outs & let’s be honest, who doesn’t love her?! The trick is in what pieces you choose & your body type. According to hellobeautiful.com, there are 3 essential rules to follow when wearing cut-outs:

1. Keep the rest of your look super simple — Let the dress do the talking!

2. Highlight a body part you love — Wearing cut-outs requires lots of confidence. If you have a toned tummy, go for side cut outs. Have nice assets up top? Go for a keyhole cut-out at the bustline.

3. Don’t give it all away — The purpose of this trend is to show a little bit of skin, not all of it. Simplicity is sexy!

Add a little peek-a-boo to your wardrobe this spring with subtle cut-outs. It’s classy & chic. You really can’t go wrong!

fashion friday: PALE NAILS!

“Fashion is all about eventually becoming naked” — Rene Konig

When it comes to fashion, Spring 2013 is saying that nails are our best accessory! I can absolutely adore a woman’s outfit, but if their nails look worn & shabby, I’m turned off. Nails are the fun & versatile part of your outfit. With today’s advances in nail design, you can do practically anything!

TRENDING RIGHT NOW: the ever-so-subtle PALE NAILS! This is a minimalist trend that is gaining lots of momentum.

Pale nails have been seen on the hands of models for known designers such as Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, and even Valentino. This look is extremely easy to achieve & one of my personal faves! I love the look probably too much. Especially since I own close to 15 different shades. Woopsy!!

Here are some colors that you can find me wearing:

  • “bond with whomever”posh lilac — Essie
  • “cocktail bling” — a precious pale gray — Essie
  • “pink-a-doodle” — classic light pink — OPI
  • “fiver” — mint green creme — Butter London
  • “jasper” — opaque bright pastel yellow — Butter London

Add a little class & chic to your day wear & GO NUDE . . . it’s completely acceptable these days!

fashion friday: PATTERNS!

“Fashion & style are completely subjective and are a form of self-expression.” — Taylor McLemore

This spring is bringing about lots of vibrant & eye-catching patterns! Spring is one of the most enjoyable times of year to dress. Not too hot & not too cold. Why not have fun with it? This week, I am featuring a good friend of mine, Taylor McLemore. She is a fashionista with a unique eye for style!

TRENDING RIGHT NOW: the mixing & matching of patterns! Taylor’s signature style is mixing patterns, but all within unified hues and shades. “I try and at least match one color or shade in each piece,” said Taylor. Not many people can pull off this look, but she’s got it down pat! If you are hesitant to mix prints like I am, here are a few helpful tips on “How to Mix Patterns Without Looking Like a Hot Mess”:

1. Find a base color — what shade appears most in your patterns?

2. Use unique patterns — try and find patterns that are very different from one another. You don’t want patterns to compete!

3. Balance — don’t pick 2 really small patterns. Try a thicker pattern paired with a smaller one! Another good way to do this is to color block between patterns. Wear a solid colored belt or neutral-toned jacket to bring the outfit down a bit.

4. Don’t get carried away — the last thing you want to look like is walking wrapping paper!

5. Don’t be afraid — mixing patterns is a fun way to style your wardrobe. Experiment a little!

The last things to consider when mixing patterns is your body type & accessorizing. Keep in mind that not everyone can pull off every pattern. Pick designs that compliment your figure. Last but surely not least, ACCESSORIZE! Taylor likes to “accessorize with jewelry & bags that differ from the color in your outfit. This will add a little pop to your attire!” To tone things down, she says to wear a neutral-colored jacket.

Taylor’s Instagram is by far one of the most impressive fashion blogs I have ever seen. Click here to check out more from her closet! I have no doubt that little-miss-thang will make the world take notice!

fashion friday: STRIPES!

Image

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” — Coco Chanel

Fashion & style are essential in the world of PR. Style sets you apart from others and leaves a more memorable impression upon an employer in comparison to a white-collared shirt. I am dedicating every Friday to be “Fashion Friday.” This is where I will post the latest trends in Hollywood & whats been catching this fashionista’s eye.

TRENDING RIGHT NOW: the ever-so-fabulous set of STRIPES! From runways in Milan to the streets of Brooklyn, stripes are setting the scene for Spring 2013.

According to TLC’s article, “5 ways to wear stripes”, there are a few things to consider before leaving the house:

1. Try color blocked stripes

2. Go chic with a striped T

3. Pick a boldly striped dress

4. Go long & lean with vertical stripes

5. Accessorize with stripes

I, personally, like the look of black and white stripes with a bold & bright necklace. There is nothing like a nice POP to an ensemble!
